Real, creative, and anything but typical.
Looking for a theatre program that’s dynamic, inclusive, and full of creative energy? Welcome to Lehigh Theatre—where artistry and intellect meet in a community that thrives on collaboration.
At Lehigh, theatre students don’t all look or think the same—and that’s the point. You’ll find actors, designers, stage managers, and directors who are also engineers, business majors, poets, athletes, and activists. Lehigh’s theatre community is creative, inclusive, and academically driven, with space for students from all majors and backgrounds to shine on stage and off.
A Theatre Program That Fits Your Life
You don’t have to major in theatre to be fully involved. While Lehigh offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, many students choose to minor, take a few courses, or jump into productions just for the experience.
In fact, some of the most active leaders in the theatre program come from engineering, business, and science majors. And if you want to double major? No problem. The theatre major leaves room to explore a second major like English, Psychology, Journalism, or Marketing.
Real Productions, Real Experience
As a student, you’ll get hands-on experience in every part of the production process—from acting to lighting to stage design. Lehigh’s home for the performing arts, the Zoellner Arts Center, includes state-of-the-art facilities like the 300-seat Diamond Theater and the intimate 100-seat Black Box.
Every year, students take part in:
- Four fully staged productions in the Diamond Theater
- Multiple student-led shows in the Black Box
- Seven performance nights per mainstage show
- Advanced design, directing, and tech opportunities
- Independent studies and senior projects
You’ll work closely with faculty mentors and professional artists—some of whom are part of Zoellner’s full-time staff and teach as adjuncts in the department.
Theatre at Lehigh = Creativity + Career Skills
Thinking about your future? Whether you're aiming for a career in the arts or looking to build skills that matter in any industry, Lehigh’s theatre program sets you up for success.
Here’s what you’ll gain:
- Public speaking and communication skills
- Collaboration and leadership experience
- Creative problem solving
- Time management and discipline
- Analytical thinking and research abilities
Plus, you’ll have access to internship opportunities with local professional theatres like Touchstone Theatre, and career connections in New York and beyond. Many Lehigh students also perform or work behind the scenes in summer theatre programs across the country.
Your Theatre Journey Starts Here
The study of theatre at Lehigh extends well beyond traditional performance stereotypes. It is designed for intellectually curious, creative, and motivated students who are eager to engage in hands-on learning—whether on stage, behind the scenes, or through rigorous academic inquiry in the classroom. Whether your aspirations lie in professional performance, graduate study, or simply a deeper exploration of the performing arts, Lehigh offers a rich and supportive environment for growth.
Students who thrive in theatre are typically those who are imaginative, analytical, adaptable, self-directed, and collaborative—individuals who are not only passionate about the arts but also open to diverse perspectives and ways of thinking.
