Personal Statement

As a sound designer with 20 years of experience in theatrical production, my work is rooted in the belief that sound has the power to transform and connect us in ways beyond what we can see. Over the years, I have been particularly drawn to creating sensory-friendly and accessible soundscapes, ensuring that every production I work on is an inclusive experience for all audiences, regardless of their abilities.

My approach to sound design is immersive, yet mindful of the sensory needs of neurodivergent individuals and those with auditory sensitivities. I strive to craft environments that evoke emotion while considering comfort and accessibility, adapting sound elements to be both stimulating and calming. My passion lies in building auditory worlds that invite every listener to experience the magic of theater without barriers.

Collaboration and innovation are central to my work. I believe in working closely with directors, performers, and accessibility consultants to create soundscapes that elevate the narrative while remaining attuned to the unique needs of each audience member. This often involves balancing creative expression with technical considerations like volume control, sound frequencies, and the use of vibrations, ensuring that everyone, from the front row to the back, can fully engage with the story being told.

My career has been dedicated to making theater an inclusive space for all, where no one is excluded from the communal experience of sound, whether they hear it through the ear, feel it through vibration, or engage with it in other ways. I am committed to pushing the boundaries of what sound design can achieve in accessibility, always seeking new ways to innovate while holding firm to the belief that art is for everyone.
