Personal Statement

I am interested in the spaces of intersection that shouldn’t be possible.

I explore stories about connection and family that expand our way of thinking about love and acceptance within our communities. My aim as a director is to create spaces of brave exploration where actors learn how to physically register their choices while constantly engaging in new ways of approaching “gems of moments” onstage. I see my work in the rehearsal room as a decolonizing, anti-racist approach to building theatre. My goal is always to tell the story in the most empowered, complicated, empathetic way possible. I believe that at the heart of theatremaking is community building and that the process of making teaches us equally if not more than the product we share with the world.

My work keeps pushing me towards more layers and nuance-my current piece reflects re-definitions of family and adoption using puppetry and boxing. I continue to be drawn to the impossible, the poetic, and the playful.
